Growing your social following can sometimes feel like a drag with no light at the end of the tunnel, especially for businesses who specialise in a certain sector that find it difficult to create engaging content. Seeing that +1 every few days can be disheartening, and that can be the case for building your Instagram followers.
Comparing Instagram to other social networks, it has the largest engagement per post per 1000 followers and that’s something that everybody wants to be involved in. It blows all other networks away in terms of engagement, with 49% of photos and 60% of videos reaching 250+ interactions.
The bottom line is Instagram has massive engagement and with the platform growing in popularity every day, I’m going to help you and your business harness the potential of the platform and its interactive users with these ‘must do’s’.
It goes without saying that to improve your follower count on Instagram, you need to post often, but how often is enough? I would suggest posting at least once a day. Accounts that do so, tend to see better results than those posting sporadically. With Instagram implementing their algorithm-based timeline, it seems as if accounts that post regularly, appear at the top of the timeline.
Using the correct hashtags in your posts can increase your organic reach tenfold. You allow your posts to be seen by a wider audience and thus improving the chances of further engagement. Make sure that your hashtags are relevant to your sector. By using a generic hashtag, you’re asking for your content to get lost amongst the millions of other posts.
Create Profile Identity
Creating a unique identity for your profile will allow your followers to gain a trust with your account. The content that you post should be ‘on brand’ for your business, which over time will make it instantly recognisable. You can do this by using the same fonts in images, using a filter for your photographs etc. An account that does this amazingly well is @airbnb. Their posts are informative and engaging whilst showcasing their company effectively.
Like and Comment
There is no better way to engage with other Instagram users than by liking, commenting and following other accounts. By doing this, you are notifying other people and businesses that you are active on the platform, meaning they are more likely to follow your account.
Another way to build your followers is to cross post your content onto other social media networks. By linking your Facebook and Twitter account to your Instagram, you can automatically share the same media across all three platforms. The post on those platforms will be branded by Instagram, which will allow users to click through and view your account.
